Writing with Skill Week 6 Day 4

Inventing Metaphors

Originals

The rain came down in long knitting needles

The patter of rain was a gentle lullaby to Amy

It was the kind of dark you can taste

Darkness squatted on the chairs and hung like a curtain across the stairway

I (did some everyday task) with darkness

Darkness was (something alive)

Invented

The rain came down in spikes and daggers

The patter of rain was the soothing presence of a parent to Amy

It was the kind of dark you can toss around

Darkness came and begged for the food

I oiled the door with darkness

Darkness was a mass of spiders crawling all over the tower

  1. I think the darkness metaphor should be another sense. Your example was taste. Perhaps you should use feel Or perhaps the darkness could swallow you. I like the spikes and daggers.
